ACCOUNTING MADE SIMPLE
Like most businesses you probably use an accountant to produce your year end accounts. You don’t want to pay any more for accountancy fees than you have to, but on the other hand, neither you nor your staff or your partner want to be spending hours and hours doing bookkeeping when the time could be better spent on other things. What you want is a system that gives you the information you need to run the business, gives the accountant the information he needs to be able to produce the year end accounts cost effectively, but doesn’t take up too much of your time. If there was a way of giving you exactly that, would it be worth an hour of your time to talk to us? You may well have a system which is far more complex than you need. You may be able to simplify some of your procedures. At this point you are probably thinking that we are trying to sell some new accounting software, but we are not - we simply believe that the accounting procedures for your business, whether it’s a manual or computerised system, should be right for you overall. That means taking account of the time you or your staff spend on the accounting procedures and considering whether that’s the best use of your time - it probably isn’t. Spending time meeting the needs of your customers or clients, or marketing your business, is probably a far more profitable use of your time.
What could you, your staff or your partner be doing if you weren’t spending so much time on the accounting procedures?
Whether you are just starting up a business, or have been trading for years, taking the mystery out of accounting terms is the first step to reducing the burden that is placed on small companies.
The following pages are here to help you understand some of the common procedures. While they are by no means a substitute for good accounting advice they will show you where problems might lie. We are always willing to answer any questions you might have. These pages will be added to and updated regularly, so watch this space!
